Preparing for a hyperbaric oxygen therapy session is simple, but following a few guidelines helps ensure the treatment is safe, comfortable, and effective.
What to wear and bring:
- Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (often cotton is recommended)
- Minimal or no jewellery, watches, or metal accessories
- No oils, lotions, perfumes, or hair products on your skin or hair
- A bottle of water to stay hydrated
Before your session:
- Stay well hydrated throughout the day
- Avoid alcohol before your appointment
- Eat a light meal (don’t arrive overly full or on an empty stomach)
- Inform your practitioner of any medical conditions or medications
During the session:
- You’ll relax in the chamber while pressure gradually increases
- You may feel a sensation similar to equalising your ears on a plane (you’ll be guided through this)
- Sessions are calm and typically last around 60–90 minutes
After your session:
- Allow your body to adjust naturally
- Continue hydrating
- Many clients feel energised and relaxed following treatment
For best results, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is often combined with other treatments such as cryotherapy, ice baths, or sauna sessions as part of a broader recovery or longevity programme.
